State College PA - Corner of Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue - the Glennland Building - the swimming pool of the first floor where many of us took swimming lessons...
During the depression O. W. Houts and Grover Glenn built the Orlando Apartments on South Barnard Street and the Glennland Building at the corner of East Beaver Avenue and Pugh Street. They developed Orlando Avenue and Glenn Road in College Heights. To get money for the Glennland Building, O.W. Houts went down to Lancaster County and sold bonds to the Amish farmers, who didn’t keep their money in the banks but instead kept it at home in boxes. One day he sold $52,500 worth of bonds. Bill Gutteron was the swimming instructor in the Glennland Pool.
